Queenstown Airport Terminal Upgrade

Queenstown Airport recently completed its Terminal Upgrade Project.  The project has created an expanded security screening area with four screening lanes that can be used for either domestic or international departures.  New security screening technology has also been introduced, bringing Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) screening for passengers departing Queenstown Airport.

The project also included major structural strengthening of part of the existing terminal and installation of new energy-efficient heating and ventilation systems.  A new immigration and Customs processing point was created along with a new duty-free retail store.  Two existing retail stores in the terminal were relocated to create space for the larger screening area.

The project was particularly challenging from a construction point of view as airport operations (security screening and Customs) had to remain operational throughout the project’s build.  A multi-stage construction strategy was developed in close cooperation with stakeholders to ensure that this could be successfully carried out.

Signal was Queenstown Airport Corporation’s project manager for the development, leading its design and construction.  Signal also acted as Engineer to the Contract for the airport company
