The recent completion of this $4.3M retail development has provided Ngai Tahu Property with a flagship building at the Blenheim Road entrance to its highly successful Tower Junction Retail Park in Christchurch.

Home to retail tenants R&R Sports, Mountain Designs and Amazon, the two level, 2,300m2 architecturally designed building was developed on a challenging island site, being surrounded on all sides by major arterial or feeder roads and traversed by underground 66KVa cables.

Signal planned and managed the project which included the systematic de-contamination of the site and provision of a detailed geotechnical assessment which resulted in the construction of a specifically designed, post-earthquake, seismic framed building on a gravel raft. Successfully securing the necessary resource and staged building consents in a timely fashion for these and other sensitive issues was a critical part of Signal's project and construction management role.

Despite a challenging tender market the project tendered well and project time-frames were minimised through the progressive tendering of trades prior to the completion of detailed design, and overlapping base-build and tenant fit-out elements. Construction started in May 2012 and accommodated pre-Christmas occupation by the tenants.
