Signal was engaged by the St John Hokonui Area Committee to project manage the planning, design and construction of their new ambulance station in Gore.
The need for the new Building Importance Level 4 building was due to the existing premises not meeting the structural requirements for an emergency service of this nature. The new facility has been designed to meet the operational requirements of a modern ambulance service with some of the key features including:
Two ambulance bays and equipment storage
Garaging for non-emergency vehicles
Administration facilities and offices
Overnight staff accommodation and facilities
Youth training facilities
Specific civil emergency facilities such as water storage and backup power supplies.
St John Hokonui area chairwoman Karen Morris said the building's design and construction phase 'had gone very smoothly'.
The new station will comply with IL4 (importance level 4) standards, which deem an ambulance station to be essential to post-disaster recovery and require it to be able to continue to function after a disaster.
The brand new ambulance station building was formally declared open on October 13 2017 with a ceremony for St John staff, volunteers and the community.
