Education Minister Hekia Parata officially opened Rolleston Christian School recently in an official ceremony. The school is located in the Selwyn District - one of fastest growing areas in New Zealand.
"Rolleston Christian School will relieve the pressure on existing schools in the urban area and will offer parents the option to send their children to a school that fits with their philosophical and religious beliefs," says Ms Parata.
"The modern learning environment that Rolleston Christian School offers will reflect the needs of 21st century students and contribute to the drive we're making to raise the educational success of Kiwi kids," says Ms Parata.
Signal Management Group was appointed by the school's Board of Proprietors, The Christian School's Trust, in 2013 to lead the project from early planning and design stages through a fully notified resource consent process, detailed design, procurement and construction. Mr Mark Larson, CEO of the Trust, said that Signal delivered on a impossible task after being handed 'a hospital pass' with an 'incredibly challenging delivery timeframe'. Signal's project manager Stuart Anderson led the project to a successful conclusion when it was completed in early February - which required shaving 5 weeks off the construction programme.
The school will ultimately provide classroom, administrative and associated infrastructure / amenity facilities for up to 600 Year 1 - 10 students.
A key element of the school's 'special character' is reflected in the design of the classroom blocks which embrace a home-base / open learning environment. The subsequent development of Stages 2 and 3, which will feature the provision of purpose built administrative, Early Childcare Centre and senior school facilities, will be demand led.
