Signal managed the initial planning, concept development, detailed design, tender and construction of the Otago University Students Union (OUSA) Clubs & Recreation Building redevelopment on behalf of the Otago University Students Union.
The three level building is home for a variety of student union clubs and recreation activities which include: ground floor administration and dance facilities; first floor study rooms, music suites, function lounge, sauna and kitchen facilities, and; second floor gym / hall facilities providing boxing, archery, badminton and other recreation activities.
In addition to a comprehensive redevelopment of the building including new ventilation, upgraded lighting, reconfigured multi-purpose spaces and a new cinema, the main entrance has also been remodelled to provide a more visually prominent 'front door'.
Reconfiguration of the heavy concrete 1970's building has also precipitated the need to complete a seismic upgrade and address a variety of accessibility compliance upgrades necessary to address current building code requirements.
Construction of the $1.7M project commenced at the end of October 2013 and was completed on time in February 2014 to accommodate the start of the 2014 academic year.
